SHSAT On-Demand Supplemental Add-Ons

Information

Looking for extra SHSAT enrichment? You’ve come to the right place. Study at your convenience with video recordings of our live online supplemental SHSAT Content Clinics and Practice Test Workshops!

These add-ons are best for students who have

  • completed both the Foundations and Applications semesters in our SHSAT small-group class program and/or
  • had at least several months of either independent SHSAT study or guided one-on-one SHSAT tutoring enrichment

These add-ons are comprised of recordings of our live classes from our Practice Test Workshops and our Content Clinics. Enrolling students will experience the Clinics or Workshops (or both) as a live online student would, with the exception of being unable to engage directly with the instructor.

Practice Test Workshops
Students who need more opportunities to work on and review mixed practice under timed constraints will find the workshops helpful. Workshops

  • consist of a practice test (official DOE) and a 2-hour workshop video recording
  • focus on the review of select, high-leverage questions (not all questions will be reviewed)
  • are led by one of our experienced SHSAT instructors.

Please note that enrolled students must take practice tests independently before they watch the Workshop video.

All enrolled students will receive access to an online portal, where students and parents can view their practice test results. Additionally, students and parents will receive a detailed score report after each practice test including a raw score breakdown, areas of strength and opportunity, as well as each students’ relative performance in comparison to the testing population.

Content Clinics
These add-ons provide students with an in-depth review of some of the more challenging concepts and topics on the SHSAT, including:

  • Poetry
  • Algebra
  • Probability & Statistics
  • Geometry & Measurements

Each topic consists of a three-video series (12 videos in total). Each video is 2 hours long, totaling 24 hours of instruction. Independent work is assigned between the first and second videos in each series.

What's the best way to support students in this program? What do parents need to do?

Every student is different, and has different academic needs. Depending on the student, parents may wish, at a minimum, to:

  • set a study schedule to watch videos, complete homework, and review homework results
  • support navigation through the student's portal (where and how to click)
  • work through the early unit(s) together

For students that require extra support, parents may wish to:

  • schedule time to review homework results and missed questions in detail
  • ensure students re-attempt missed questions from homework and practice tests
  • engage students (with or without a private tutor) on challenging topics identified by homework results and practice test score reports

Who is this course for?

Our SHSAT Content Clinics and Practice Test Workshops are ideal for rising 8th-graders who are looking for some extra SHSAT prep. Any student getting ready for the SHSAT is welcome to enroll.

If your student has not yet been introduced to the SHSAT and is looking for some extra help, please email [email protected] so we can set up tutoring to familiarize your student with the test.

What should my student expect from the course?

This On-Demand program is based on video recordings from our live online classes. Program participants will hear and see the instructor, as well as the instructor's interactions with students from class. This means participants will hear jokes, questions, and answers. Think of it like attending a live online class without a microphone :)

Each clinic will be led by our experienced SHSAT instructors, and:

  • consists of 6 hours of total classroom instruction during 1 week
  • spread across 3 sessions, each of which are 2 hours long

Clinic topics include:

  • Poetry
  • Algebra
  • Geometry & Measurements
  • Statistics & Probability

Each Practice Test Workshop consists of an official DOE SHSAT Practice Test and the recorded, related Review Session. After submitting the test, they will have the opportunity to review their work using the recording of an experienced SHSAT instructor to learn from their mistakes, leading to improved test-taking strategy and overall score.

Free Practice Tests

  • 3 hours long
  • Self-proctored with our At-Home proctoring videos

Practice test forms used will be the four official practice tests released by the DOE. If students have already taken some or all of these tests, and would like to review, they are still welcome to join the workshop to review! Please email us at [email protected] to let us know which forms your student has already taken so we can arrange his or her participation in the accompanying review session.

Review Sessions

  • 2 hours long
  • recording of a targeted review of the associated practice test (tailored based on aggregate student performance in that session)
  • challenge material available for high scorers

All review sessions are led by one of our experienced SHSAT instructors.

What materials are included?

Tuition includes all instruction and course materials. Students must supply their own pencils and erasers, as they would for any other course and on the day of the test.

For the Content Clinics, all enrolled families will receive:

  • a clinic packet created by The Tutorverse (to print at home)
