FAQS

What's included in the Score Reports?

These score reports contain three parts:

  • Part 1: Overall Performance
    • Raw Score - the number of questions answered correctly, by Section (i.e. on English Language Arts and on Mathematics)
      • The raw score on this test should be used as an indicator of areas of strengths and areas for growth.
    • Percentile Rank - how the student performed on each Section, compared with all other students who have taken this test
      • A percentile rank of 99 means that the student scored higher than 99% of other students. A percentile rank of 75 means that the student scored higher than 75% of other students.
      • It is our opinion that percentile rank is the most important indicator of current achievement.
    • Scaled Score Estimate - our estimation about how the percentile performance might translate to a scaled score on the actual SHSAT
      • We have included this as a courtesy for interested parents. The conversion from raw to scaled scores is a proprietary process known only to the DOE and its contractors. This estimation is based on popular, third-party conversion tables. Please review our post about Interpreting SHSAT Practice Test Scores (LINKED) for more information on what this means. It is not a guarantee of future performance and should not be relied upon as a guarantee of any kind.
  • Part 2: Section Performance
    • Within each Section are different Question Categories. Performance by Question Category informs on where students may need additional support.
  • Part 3: Item Level Performance
    • This part displays the question, category, student response, and correct response. Review the answer explanations in the back of your blue workbook.

How accurate are these score reports?

The raw score calculations are accurate based on your data submission. The scaled score conversion presented on the report are estimations only - they should not be relied upon as a future predictor of an actual scaled score on an actual SHSAT.

It is our opinion that the most valuable metric on this report is the Percentile Rank, which is accurate as of our latest reporting update. This metric will help you better understand where your student's performance stands relative to other students who have taken this test.
