Here’s what a parent had to say:

“A huge thank you for preparing Charlie so well! You do a fantastic job keeping us parents informed on everything in such an organized manner and I think Charlie is going into Sunday’s SHSAT test feeling like he’s as ready as he can be and confident he’ll be able to handle anything that shows up.”

Who is this course for? Will you host other programs later in the year?

This course is intended for rising 7th graders planning to sit for the 2023 SHSAT test dates, and offers the best per-session tuition rate for the year.

Right now, we're seeing that rising 8th graders (taking the 2022 SHSAT) are underperforming students in previous cohorts (those who took the 2021 and earlier SHSAT). This is the result of pandemic-related learning losses that have significantly reduced the reading and mathematics achievement levels of students across the city.

Though we expect to provide a 23-Session program that starts Spring 2023 (skipping Foundations and beginning with Applications), this year, we recommend that all students enroll in the 35-Session program to ensure proper Foundations mastery. Students may opt to join the 23-Session program, but this is only recommended for the most advanced students. We expect the tuition for this program to be approximately $2,895.

Private tutoring is always available for students who wish to supplement their in-class learning. Email [email protected] to get started.

What should my student expect from the course?

  • Foundations (Winter 7th Grade - 12 Classes)
    • gives students an in-depth review of key foundational concepts required before tackling test-like questions
    • helps students identify learning gaps due to COVID-19 learning loss early on in the process
    • leverages and is fully aligned with common-core standards
  • Applications (Spring 7th Grade - 8 Classes + 2 Practice Tests)
    • gives students the opportunity to apply the fundamentals to test-like questions and scenarios
    • reinforces concepts in 7th grade common core curriculum
    • introduces students to the test-taking strategies needed for success on the test
    • includes a diagnostic and two practice tests: a start-of-semester and end-of-semester practice test
  • Summer Practice (Summer between 7th and 8th Grade - 4 Practice Tests)
    • 4 realistic, live-proctored practice tests
    • each test includes a full score report, complete with a scaled score estimate and answer key
    • [optional add on] join our summer Practice Test Workshop for review sessions
  • Reinforcement (Fall 8th Grade - 6 Classes + 3 Practice Tests)
    • provides students the opportunity to build good test-taking habits
    • reinforces the concepts covered in Applications
    • includes three practice tests to help build confidence through experience

Where and when are sessions held?

Classes and practice tests will be hosted in-person at 222 Broadway, 750 Lexington Avenue, or 120 Warren Street (one of our partner locations). If, due to public health and safety policies, in-person classes must be converted to online classes, we will be prepared to do so quickly, and will communicate this change via email.

Please click the linked date ranges linked in section 2 below for specific locations, dates, and times.

Please note: All dates/times/locations are tentative, subject to minimum enrollment requirements, and may be changed. If you sign up for a specific date/time/location and we are unable to offer it, we will gladly switch you into a different course, or provide you with a full refund.

What happens if I have a scheduling conflict? Can I switch classes?

If you have a last-minute scheduling conflict, we will try each of the following options in order:

  1. have your student attend a make-up session in-person (in-person students only; subject to availability)
  2. have your student attend a make-up session online (subject to availability)
  3. encourage your student to watch the class recording located in their portal
  4. arrange for a private tutoring make-up session (additional tuition required)

Students may not switch classes within the same semester. However, we may add more dates and times to each subsequent semester. If we do, we may give presently enrolled families a preview of new options for the upcoming semester. Subject to availability, and before general enrollment opens, families can switch their enrollment to a new class option if it works better for their schedule. Please note that additional dates and times are not guaranteed, and that the ability to switch is offered on a first-come-first-served basis.

For example: Riley enrolls into the Saturday class in the Foundations semester. Before the Applications semester, The Tutorverse releases new class dates, including a Wednesday class option. The Tutorverse notifies Riley's family of new class options and a deadline to switch classes. Before the deadline, Riley's family switches her enrollment from Saturday to Wednesday.
